Lighthouse set in December with Louis (from Dirty Habits)

Played a 1 hour set at Phuc Tan Club (formerly Lighthouse) in early December. We hosted a night called "Skank", which was a huge success considering it was on a Sunday night. I've been having trouble getting pacemaker to work since they changed the name to Let's Mix and changed the functionality of the site. Will try to get both sets up on there with embedded players on here at some point. Watch this space.

Recorded a new UK Lyricism mix to replace UK Lyricism Session 1 (which was too large to put on Pacemaker). Will try to get it on here soon.

Been painstakingly expanding my record collection over the last few weeks. Hard up and hungry at the moment so taking on extra work and probably won't be doing any mixes/sets for awhile, but watch this space.....

Cuba 2nd Set

Tuesday, 15 September 2009

Cuba Bar 2nd live set went as smoothly as a baby's bum...

... but sadly not many heads turned up to hear either myself or Vaughan play. I think the weather didn't help much. Big reps to Vaughan for his 2 hour set, and big love to all those who showed up. For those who missed it, I'm gonna upload a recording of my playlist/mix when I get a chance.

Watch this space for info about my next gig...

Live sets at Cuba Bar and Phuc Tan

I played a couple of weeks ago at Cuba Bar, at one of their Saturday Sessions (World Jam theme).

Played an eclectic mix of slow, thoughtful, musical UK and US Hip Hop alongside a group of live percussionists, which was awesome! Had trouble with the sound setup from my laptop, so ended up doing the entire mix without any cues, from memory (and visually beat-matching using the wave-forms on VDJ).

I want to thank everyone who gave me positive feedback. It made me feel a bit better about the fact I lost my rag and sparked that Bob Dylan wannabe who not once... not twice... but 3 times asked me to completely change the genre and bpm of my set so that he could play his guitar and be centre-stage... and ended up getting really abusive with me and sticking his middle finger in my face while I was trying to mix. Normally I'm a pacifist, but if you really repeatedly ask me to punch you in the face (or the back of the head, if you turn away when you see me swinging for you), I will eventually oblige. ;)

My next live set is this Thursday night at Phuc Tan Nightclub (formerly Lighthouse). Just a very informal Hip Hop DJ get-together to drop some banging beats on Hanoi heads.

Then this Saturday I have another set at Cuba Bar Saturday Sessions. This time won't be a jam session, so I will just play a set and possibly take a few requests. Hopefully will have cuing sorted by then too. Gonna be mostly US Hip Hop this time, and a bit heavier than before, but still aimed at bringing Hanoians and expats alike a mix of oldskool classics and stuff they won't know but will hopefully like! If this one goes down as well as the last one, I'm hoping to make it a regular set of mine, and actually headline it rather than be a 'guest DJ'...

So anyone wanting to hear some quality Hip Hop mixing - get your arse down to Phuc Tan on Thursday around 9.30pm, and/or Cuba Bar on Saturday at a similar time (it closes around 12.30am, so best not to be 'fashionably late' for this one!).

Peace

DJ Syko - UK Lyricism Session 2

DJ Syko - UK Lyricism Session 2: "DJ Syko - UK Lyricism Session 2" (Session 1 is too large to upload on pacemaker, I'll try and get it on there without compromising the quality, somehow)
